The DLI Museum & Durham Art Gallery is home to the treasures of The Durham Light Infantry, County Durham's own regiment. It charts the history of the dli from 1758-1968 through the eyes of the soldiers who fought and their families back home.
Displays include uniforms, weapons, equipment, photographs and battlefield relics.
Visit the Medal Room and see an outstanding collection of medals, including eight original Victoria Crosses, and understand what made these men 'Local Heroes'.
See the gun on which Newcastle's Adam Wakenshaw laid down his life to save his battalion from destruction and gained the Victoria Cross.
See the battle-scarred uniform worn by Richard Annand from South Shields, when he became the first soldier of the Second World War to win the Victoria Cross.
The museum building also houses The Durham Art Gallery which offers a varied programme of exhibitions throughout the year on arts, crafts, design and illustration, talks demonstrations and family workshops.
