Killhope - The North of England Lead Mining Museum

Winner of the 2008 Small Visitor Attraction of the Year Killhope is a great day out for young and old.

Killhope explores the life of North Pennine lead mining families. Come and see how Victorian North Pennine lead mining families lived. Accompany one of our award-winning, friendly and knowledgeable guides on an underground tour of the mine. Find minerals as you work as a washerboy.

2009 exhibitions include Routes and Riches (Journeys to New Lands), the National Spar Boxes collection and Magnificent Minerals from the North Pennines. Before you leave take a walk around the woodland and see our red squirrels.

Features a mine underground experience, Northern England's largest working water wheel and 'hands on' activities, as well as woodland walks.

Killhope's shop has an array of gifts, souvenirs and books, suitable for all pockets.

Killhope Cafe offers a wide range of homemade food, ingredients are organic and/or locally sourced where possible
